Hang lamp: Size does matter....

This morning I advised a customer who is planning to put two Kathleen Hills' cluster lights in her hallway like I did in my home in France (see this TOTALLY un-styled photo) and she was also interested in the Hang lamp. Now, I'm a big fan of the Hang lamp's simplicity because I think it's a good choice for a kitchen or a workspace mais attention size does matter...

In this super hip kitchen made by Italian Arclinea, they've used the standard Hang lamp (25 cm diam) which is fine and looks nice but personally I would have made a real statement with this light and go for the large version because the standard one just looks a tiny lost in the background.
So just bear this in mind when you search for the perfect lamp...enquire about the height of the lamp, its diameter and try to visualise how much space it will take above your head, will it be big enough or will it look lost in space?
You can get a real idea of the look of the lamp in the video below...Ok it's in Danish so not great for most of us except our lovely Danish readers but you get a very good idea of the design of the lamp and how creative you can be with the 3 meters long cable! (PS: Rikke is holding the standard size)

It's a rug day today!

We've just added 4 more striking rugs to our rug collection and my favourite is the Spine rug designed by fashion designer Camilla Staek for Normann Copenhagen. For those, who never heard of Staek, she is a danish designer who is now mostly based in New-York and who has been awarded Top Shop’s New Generation Award three times!
She was called “a future fashion star,” by British Vogue, and has nabbed great reviews in such publications as Women’s Wear Daily, New York magazine and Elle Paris.
Darkly romantic in mood, and notable for her distinctive use of leather, Stærk’s collections also quickly earned her a devoted celebrity following, with fans including Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler and Julianne Moore and our favourite model and photographer Helena Christensen who proved to be so devoted to Stærk’s designs that she stocked them at her shop, Butik (on my list of places to visit next time I'm off to NY!) and hosted Stærk’s debut presentation in New York at the store, and threw an A-list Fashion Week party for the designer to celebrate her first catwalk show in the city.
Check Helena's NY home here...it's fabulous and very inspiring!
With the Spine rug, it is the first time that Camilla enters the world of design for the home. Her inspiration was Karen Blixen, her travels to Africa and her Danish roots. After designed Africa inspired prints for her fashion line, she felt the need to see this gorgeous print in a big size et Voila! The result is a striking and elegant Spine rug!
The other beautiful rug we've added is the Dahlia rug by Claydies, the talented designers behind our best-selling Grass Vase series.
Inspired by the Dahlia flower, the Dahlia rug is both decorative and adds colour and dynamism to a room. Armed only with a mirror, a compass and coloured pencils, the girls from Claydies toyed with geometric forms and created a pattern that is modern in form, colour and expression.

Camping by Normann Copenhagen

Taking glamping (glamour camping) to the next level of Luxing (luxurious camping), Normann Copenhagen is launching the exclusive Camping series designed by Jesper K. Thomsen.
A collection that includes a chair, table, stool and daybed and consists of chairs, table, stool and daybed in moulded beech wood.

Jesper K. Thomsen explains: 'The archetypical camping equipment has been my inspiration. The design has a recognition factor that brings the thoughts over to leisure and togetherness, that many think are typical of camping. I like the thought of bringing outdoor pursuits indoor or, perharps more correctly, freedom into the living room. At the same time, the icon, camping furniture, has been refined in my interpretation. Against all odds, I have been successful in making the chairs and the daybed without frames beneath the seat, which makes part of its unique expression.'

CAMPING is part of New Danish Modern - Normann Copenhagen's furniture collection, which combines traditional Danish crafts and manufacture with modern designs.

We love this video that shows how the Camping series is made...It was recorded at Kvist – one of denmark’s oldest wooden furniture factories dating back to 1896 and it's pretty cool and amazing how the series is made.

Spotted by Normann Copenhagen

Normann was one of the first brands we stocked when we launched BODIE and FOU 4 years ago after we fell in love with their rubber washing-up bowls designed by Ole Jensen.
If we had listened to our friends who told us that never in a million years, people would buy a washing-up bowl at £40 (price back then) and that we didn't know what we were doing, well B&F wouldn't exist. But as it happens, we don't really listen and we just believed it would work and it did. To this day, the Normann washing-up bowls and their Cognac glasses are still our best-sellers.
Beside having fantastic products, Normann Copenhagen is one of the most entrepreneurial and innovative company we work with and an inspiration to our business so Vive Normann!

The bowls that stopped me from going to jail

If you're thinking about getting a new set of bowls for the kitchen, the Jensen bowls by Normann Copenhagen are the ones to get. I took the blue ones at home a few weeks ago and I have been raving about it since then but let's focus on why they are so good...
Is it because each bowl has a wide slop suitable for pouring thin as well as thick consistency?
I don't know.

I'm not a great cook so it's not like I have massive amount of expertise when it comes to kitchenware but I do find this wide thing very practical.
What really did it for me is how light they are and I should know that this matters because a few years ago, I was preparing my famous chocolate cake to take to her friend's party when disaster striked.
As I was holding my nice ceramic salad bowl with one hand (from the Ikea 365+ range but they don't do the bowl anymore which is a shame), trying to pour the mixture in my oven dish with the other, I dropped the flippin' thing which broke into pieces in the oven dish.
Not only I didn't have enough butter and chocolate to start all over again but I was running late so in the end, I picked up the ceramic bits from the chocolate, put the whole thing in the oven and Bob's your uncle!
Except that when my friends started to eat my cake, they came across crunchy bits which I could hardly disguise as nuts. Fearing that of of them would start bleeding to death after eating my ceramic bits or decide to sue me, I came clean.

To this day, although they are still my friends, my 'crunchy cake' stands right up there at the same level than the tuna cake not cooked enough I served them when Elodie was pregnant.
So yes they are light and they are fantastic to use. Personnally, my favourite ones are the blue because I feel I'm cooking by the sea (blue/sea..see the link..) but they come in white or grey.
They also have a non-slip bottom and I love the different sizes. Mila uses the small one at breakfast and I love the other sizes to prepare things and the largest one as a salad bowl.
So I'm not going to make an habit of reviewing the kitchen stuff we have on BODIE and FOU, but these bowls are great.

Available in grey here, blue here and white here
