Passive Solar House Design Overlooking Mount Olympus
Christina Zerva Architects designed this modern passive solar house design in Nikaia, Greece. Its geometric form, open concept layout and glass walls frame the stunning views of Mount Olympus. The house is divided in two cubes connected by a glass bridge. The main living area is a two-storey space with industrial-chic elements like exposed steel beams, artistic light fixtures and floor-to-ceiling windows which connect the home’s modern interior to its contemporary facade. The kitchen boasts glossy white cabinetry and countertops, slate floors, and a yellow wall and faux ceiling with circular cut-outs that reveal the true ceiling above. An enclosed staircase with square cut-outs leads upstairs. Although it can’t be seen outright, there’s an ever-present eco sustainable factor at play here. The home’s steel frame is wrapped in prefabricated organic blocks that passively maintain a comfortable temperature during the summer’s heat and the winter’s chill. The rooftop features photovoltaic solar panels that deliver sustainable energy. Recycled and repurposed materials make up much of this passive solar house design, illuminated by LEDs for low-energy consumption
